Samsung is all set to jump its phone release in a bid to outdo Apple’s imminent product launch and has scheduled an August 2013 event ‘Unpacked 2015’ where it will possibly welcome a new addition it its phablet range of devices-the Galaxy Note, along with a new flagship phone.

The event, to be held at the Lincoln Centre in New York, has already sent out invites, and it kicks off at at 11 a.m. Eastern, and doors open at 10 a.m. The same can be live-streamed by enthusiasts across the globe at the Samsung YouTube Channel.

Although the invite didn’t give out any details of what the fans could be in for, but leaks and pictures point to a stylus-equipped multi-tasking performer along the lines of it’s popular Note devices.

Also in the pipeline could be a new Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (again, as revealed by leaks time and again), a handset with a 5.7-inch screen that curves over on both sides. Rumors also suggest that the Galaxy Note 5 will sport an ultra-HD AMOLED display, a USB Type-C connection and an all-in-one chip combining CPU, GPU, memory, storage and modem into a single piece of silicon.

Samsung fanboys are in for a roll, as numerous reports have suggested that the much-before scheduled event might witness the showcasing of a new smartwatch (its seventh!) or fitness band, and an upgrade to the Samsung’s Gear VR headset, something that could make or break whatever share Samsung has in the virtual reality space. Yesterday, the company showed off a concept monitor that can wireless charge your smartphone.

A New York launch, however, is rather typical of Samsung, Tradition has it that the Galaxy Note is unveiled at the IFA trade fair in Berlin, closely followed by iPhone’s launch. The August 13 launch could work well in its favour if the Korean smartphone giant’s offerings manage to catch the consumer’s eye before the iPhone.

Samsung needs to score big on its upcoming product launches more than ever. The company is battling it’s seventh profit dip and saturating of smartphone sales in key markets such as China haven’t helped its cause. It needs to ensure it’s gizmos do well in its once stronghold growing emerging markets like Africa and India.
