Microsoft is going strong on wearables. Just yesterday we exclusively reported on a new Microsoft Research tech named ‘WearDrive’, aimed at making your wearable last longer. And now, we have a new teaser from the Redmond giant, showing off a futuristic use of its aug-reality helmet, the Hololens.
However, before we go any further, lets be clear on what Augmented reality actually is. There is a big difference between virtual reality and augmented reality, both of which are often confused to be similar. In essence, the upcoming headset will help you augment the real world as opposed to the Occulus Rift and its brethren which have future plans of transporting you to a virtual one.
This means that you will be able to make more out of the real world in augmented reality, using gestures like pinch-to-zoom etc. against VR, which is a mere visual representation of the world surrounding you. The video here shows off what the Redmond giant’s future plans for its upcoming gear are.
This CG video, shot at Case Western Reserve University, shows doctors examining bodies as they float in midair, creating a new way to teach anatomy. If Microsoft is able to get the HoloLens to work as shown in the video, it will surely revolutionize the way our world works today.
