VAIO lovers have got reasons to cheer, there is a smartphone ready to be launched next week. Though all you get to take a peek at right now is the retail packaging, not the goods inside.

Model number VA-10J, was approved by Japanese authorities last year December, allowing for its commercialization in Japan. Sony, of course, has no part in this, since the VAIO brand was sold off to Japan Industrial Partners and later relaunched independently.

Re-valuating their stand (and the profits they failed to earn) in the third quarter of 2013, the struggling VAIO arm was sold to JIP, the deal closing on March 2014. There was an exponential drop in demand for its PCs, and save the Flip 11A, they didn’t have much going on for that sector. CEO Hirai simply termed it as an ‘agonizing’ decision.

The phone itself has pretty standard specifications – It has 5-inch 720p display, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB internal memory, runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, a 13 MP rear camera and the front one is a 5MP one.

There is no information out about the device price, or whether it will be made available in regions other than Japan, as of now.
