As a field executive my work is mostly on the field. I use a Samsung tablet for my daily tasks, a Galaxy Tab S7 which I bought in early 2023. A tablet adds great convenience for my work because firstly it offers a big screen that is easy to check details. One day, I had finished a long visit and thought to clean some storage, because the tablet was showing low space warning again and again. While deleting some old photos, I did not notice what all was selected. I remember tapping delete and putting the tablet aside. Later that evening, I needed to open a few photos from that visit. When I opened the Gallery, the folder was missing. I searched by date, by name, everything. Those photos were not there.
When It Became Clear the Photos Were Gone?
I realised that I had deleted them myself. The photos were important. They were proof related to my field visit that I had to submit in next month reports. I opened the Trash folder hoping they will be there. But it was empty, because I had made a huge mistake by clearing it earlier in the day to free up some extra space.
The tablet had no recent backup. Sync was turned off because I use the tablet mostly offline. At that point I realized I had made a serious mistake, recreating those photos was possible but time taking, financially straining and repeats all the hardwork I had put through a week. Also, the conditions won’t be same anymore.
Understanding What Happens After Deletion on a Samsung Tablet
Before trying anything, I wanted to understand how Samsung tablets handle deleted data. I read through user experiences and forum websites. I learned that when photos are deleted, they are not removed instantly from device’s internal storage. They remain hidden until the space is reused.
Samsung tablets running Android behave the same way as phones in this case. If the storage blocks are not overwritten, recovery is possible. But timing matters. There was some hope that the photos might still be inside the tablet.
Finding a Practical Way Forward
I spoke to a friend of mine who handles such cases and is an expert in data safety and security. He suggested using a recovery tool instead of random methods. He warned me not to download anything directly on the tablet. The scan should be done using a computer. Therefore, he recommended me a tool called – Stellar Data Recovery for Android. How to Try to Recover the Deleted Photos
On my laptop I downloaded the Stellar Data Recovery for Android tool from the official website. Installation was simple and luckily i allowed support for even android tablets. I realised its not about the device but the OS, and since both tablet and phone runs on Android OS, it works in the similar manner in both devices. Soon I connected my Samsung tablet to my laptop using a USB cable and allowed the required permissions on the device.
The tool detected the tablet without any issue. It asked me to choose what type of data I wanted to recover, so I selected Photos and as well as documents because there were some in trash that i had cleared previously.
I started the scan and waited. Once the scan finished, the software displayed a list of images it found. The files were grouped by type and date, which made browsing easier.
I found the photos I was looking for. The same images from the site visit were there. The preview option allowed me to open them and check quickly.
Recovering and Saving the Files
After confirming the images, I selected them and clicked save. The files were recovered back on my computer. From there, I transferred them back to the tablet and also stored a copy on an external drive.
That moment brought a lot of relief. Losing those photos could have delayed my work. Recovering them saved time and effort.
What I Learned from This Experience
This incident made me more careful with how I manage files on my devices. I now double check before deleting anything. I keep the Trash folder uncleared for some time. I also make sure that important photos are backed up manually. Here I learned that relying only on default system features is not always enough. When something goes wrong, knowing the right steps matters more than trying random fixes.
A Note for Anyone Facing the Same Problem
If you have deleted photos from a Samsung tablet, do not panic. Stop using the device immediately. Avoid taking new photos or installing apps. Check the Trash folder and backups first.
