The Nintendo Switch is an insanely popular console, that has been breaking records left and right. Along the same, the company has created a brand new record that has given it quite a lot of brag value.

Today, the company announced that it’s Switch console has sold 15 Mn units in North America alone. This makes the Switch the most popular and best selling console in the U.S. for a consecutive 10 months. With this number, Switch has surpassed the lifetime worldwide sales of one of its own most popular consoles, the Wii U.

As millennials would remember, the Wii U was Nintendo’s flagship for quite a while. The company sold almost 14 Mn units of its previous-generation console, before taking it off the shelves in favor of the newer Switch. While the Switch is by no means the most popular console out there (that honor would arguably go to some iteration or other of the Play Station and/or the Xbox) it’s performance has still been incredibly impressive in terms of sales.

After all, Switch was only introduced in 2017, which the last PlayStation (PS4) came out way back in 2013. While Sony is already readying the launch of a refresh in form of the PS5, Nintendo’s Switch is still in the middle stage of its life and would probably still sell for a few years. It’s global record is even more impressive, with over 38 Mn units flying off the shelfs across the globe!

Nintendo has been keenly capitalizing upon the Switch brand. The company recently launched the Switch Lite, a $199 offering that focused on portability ad gameplay and did not have some extra features that came with the regular console.

Along with it, Nintendo has also been making a killing on games with 14 titles selling more than one million copies each and 4 of its in-house games selling 6 Mn+ copies each. The latter include Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
