Apple Austin Campus

Apple is pushing up a major expansion bi as it looks to push sales which have largely stagnated for a while. The company has now announced a major expansion in the US Apple aims to increase its workforce.

The iPhone maker has revealed that it will spend $1 billion to open a new campus in Austin, Texas. Additionally, the company will also set up new offices in Seattle, San Diego, and the Los Angeles area. 

Initially, Apple’s Texas office will house 5,000 people, with plans to expand it to 15,000 people. The company already has an office in Texas and the new 133-acre site is about a mile away from it. It will have 50 acres of open space and will run entirely on renewable energy.

Apple’s other planned offices, in Seattle, San Diego, and Los Angeles will host nearly 1,000 workers initially. It is also planning to add hundreds of new jobs in Pittsburgh, New York, Boulder, Boston, and Portland, Oregon.

The company claims that the 133-acre space in Texas will generate an initial 5,000 jobs across a broad range of roles, with the potential to add 10,000 more. It claims to have 6,200 employees in Austin, which is the company’s largest enclave outside of Cupertino.

Commenting on this development, Apple CEO Tim Cook said:

Apple is proud to bring new investment, jobs, and opportunity to cities across the United States and to significantly deepen our quarter-century partnership with the city and people of Austin.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott lauded the investment and said:

Their [Apple’s] decision to expand operations in our state is a testament to the high-quality workforce and unmatched economic environment that Texas offers. I thank Apple for this tremendous investment in Texas, and I look forward to building upon our strong partnership to create an even brighter future for the Lone Star State.

Apple said it added 6,000 jobs to its U.S. workforce this year to take its total in the country to 90,000. It said it remains on track to create 20,000 new jobs in the U.S. by 2023.

The news of Apple’s new offices come just a year after it opened up its ambitious “Spaceship” campus, for which the tech giant reportedly spent $427 million.
