AppWorks, a Gurgaon-based IT servicing and consulting company has acquired BigDrop, a custom software development company which offers solutions to other startups, SMEs and large companies.

The financial details related to the deal have not been disclosed yet. After the acquisition, the company will leverage the capabilities of BigDrop’s engineers to enhance its capabilities in services, products and digital marketing.

AppWorks, which started as a niche IT servicing and consulting company in 2008, has since evolved into a holding company with strong capabilities in building IT solutions, especially mobile apps. It also offers consulting services to MNCs on improving their software engineering practices, upskilling freshers to make them employable, and collaborating with startups to help them launch in the market. The company counts companies such as Target, eBay, Bravura and Fidelity among its clients.

Commenting on the acquisition, Ashish Bhata, co-founder of Appworks, said,

Appworks is now becoming a collection of LOBs – BigDrop, OrganIQ, UpSkill, plus a host of startups. Bringing the talent of BigDrop in-house will enable us to accelerate our growth.

Gurgaon-based BigDrop, founded by Sherjil Ozair and Naved Khan, employs 14 people, all of whom have been absorbed by AppWorks in this deal. The bootstrapped startup had around 25 clients including SoftAge, India Accelerator, Just Rokket, and VConnekt, among others.

Recent acqui-hires in India include ride-sharing startup Lyft acquiring Pune-based startup Finite Paths, ixigo acquiring mobile content sharing app Reach, OnlineTyari’s acquisition of photo and video sharing app Plix, and UpGrad acquiring corporate training startup Pyoopil Education Technologies.
