On this International Woman’s Day, Zone Startups India has announced that they will soon launch the 2nd cohort of empoWer, along with a few industry partners. Earlier, it had organized a similar empoWer programme, where 15 women entrepreneurs were selected from over 180 applicants.

Commenting on this announcement, Ajay Ramasubramaniam, Director, Zone Startups India, said,

Through our accelerator program, and various bootcamps, workshops, demo days hosted by us we realized the need for having a focused program that works with women entrepreneurs in tech businesses.

The problems faced by a lot of women entrepreneurs is unique, and we feel that there is a case for having a dedicated accelerator program for women entrepreneurs – complete with mentoring, workshops, caste studies of successful women led startups, industry connect, peer network and investor connect.

Dr. Anita Gupta, Associate Head of NSTEDB, a key supporter of the empoWer initiative, said,

As a part of National initiatives on Start up India and Stand up India, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India is supporting ‘”empoWer “, which is designed to equip women entrepreneurs with knowledge, skills and networks required to navigate and scale up their startups.

empoWer is a 6-week accelerator program built on the basis of a primary research conducted by Zone Startups India, during its application process. As per the company, the structure has been defined by the inputs generated from women entrepreneurs during this research.

The structure takes care of problems and provides help/guide on various matters, such as lack of information on markets, seeking financial independence, taking risks, managing business operations, absence of role models, access to finance, networking, etc.

The main objective of the empoWer accelerator program from Zone Startups India is to identify some solid women entrepreneurs who’re building great, fundable businesses.
