The social media was literally flooded with anticipatory messages as the first new Nokia branded phone was revealed last week. Well, the company behind the new smartphones may have something else brewing as well and it has announced February 26th, as the date when it will let the cat out of the bag.
HMD Global, a Finnish company that was founded with the purpose of reviving Nokia, has made a new announcement. Along with a short teaser video that displayed the new, China-exclusive Nokia 6 device, it also told everyone to wait for news on the 26th of Feb. The announcement was made through Nokia Mobile’s Facebook page.
Get ready! The Nokia 6 is coming to China! More announcements to follow on February 26th… Save the date!
The company also responded to various questions about Nokia’s release date for other devices, its plans for launching in other locations, why China was chosen as to make the debut and so on and so forth.
Upon why China was chosen, Nokia said,
China is the world’s largest smartphone market. It is also the most competitive one. This makes it the obvious choice for us. Our ambition is to set a new standard in design, material quality and manufacturing innovation across every tier of products by continuing to build on all the hallmarks of a true Nokia phone experience.
On the question of Nokia’s shift to the Android operating system and whether the new devices will run stock versions of the OS, the company said that it was committed to using the latest version of Android across its devices — that coming from a company that ignore Android, choosing to become extinct instead. How the times have changed!
Meanwhile, the company said that battery will be a major point of its focus and as such, Nougat with its superior battery saving features, will be the perfect fit for the brand’s comeback.
Android Nougat has some significant improvements which deliver real world benefits for people. We know that battery management is the number 1 concern for the majority of consumers when selecting a smartphone. Android Nougat offers better battery management with features like Doze that helps save battery power even when you’re on the move. So your device will still go into low power usage while you carry it in your pocket or purse.
Meanwhile, the Feb 26th date puts HMD Global’s announcements right before the Mobile World Congress that is slated to take place in Barcelona. Considering that Nokia 6 while nice, wasn’t what you would call awe-inspiring, a flagship from the company may just be on display at the MWC. However, that is just pure speculation at this point. All that matters is the fact that Nokia is coming back!
