Qualcomm to reveal details for the Snapdragon 835 processor at CES 2017

The dawn of the biggest electronics extravaganza is upon us. And adding to the anticipation is American chipmaker Qualcomm, who’s now shared a teaser video on Twitter saying that its latest and greatest mobile chip will be detailed at the trade show. Yes, the Snapdragon 835 is the company’s new 10nm processor that’ll see the light of day in the coming week of January.

Though there has been enough speculation about the launch of the next Snapdragon chip, Qualcomm has kept mum and not dropped any hints about the specs of the same. But, on Wednesday, it shared the following teaser saying the 835 processor will “come into focus” at the CES 2017 event.

But, we’re still aware some basic details of the Snapdragon 835, courtesy Qualcomm and Samsung. Just last month, the two tech giants said that they would be joining forces to develop a much better and faster processor for mobile devices next year. As of now, we are aware of the fact that the new processor is being built using Samsung’s 10-nanometer FinFET process. This will lead to a reduction in size and increase in processing power when compared to SD 820 or SD 821 which were manufactured using the 14nm FinFET process.

Qualcomm, during the said announcement, confirmed that the advanced 10nm technology has enabled the 835 processors to witness a 27 percent increase in performance and a 40 percent reduction in power consumption. There has also been a 30 percent increase in the area efficiency of the chip — as compared to the 14nm technology. These improvements are coupled with the latest version of their QuickCharge technology that’ll provide even faster charging speeds, and advanced safety features.

So, yeah, we know very little about the Snapdragon 835 chip and are waiting to know more about the specifics for clock speed and graphics performance. The rumors suggest that it will host an octa-core design with a clock speed of 2.2GHz, and an Adreno 540 GPU which would be 30 percent faster. Also, Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be the first smartphone of 2017 to come packed with this new processor.
