Huawei’s Honor has finally brought its flagship smartphone — Honor 8 in India, for a price of Rs. 29,999. The device was originally announced back in July this year.

The USP of the smartphone is the dual-camera setup at the back, which basically performs the same as its parent company’s Huawei P9 smartphone. The phone’s design gives it an elegant look, and it flaunts an astonishing glass back and metal chassis.

As for the specifications, the phone features a 5.2-inch Full HD display panel, with screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is powered by the company’s own Kirin 950 Octa-core processor, clocked at 2.3GHz, paired with a 4GB RAM and Mali-T880 MP4 GPU.

It comes with 32GB and 64GB of internal storage. However, the storage can be further expanded up to 128GB, thanks to the Hybrid SIM card slot.

The camera setup includes a 12MP rear dual camera setup with dual-tone flash, f/2.2, 1.25 µm pixel size, laser autofocus. While one sensor captures the monochrome image, another sensor captures RGB image. It also comes with an 8MP f/2.4 front shooter with a pixel size of 1.4 µm.

As of the software, the handset runs on company’s own custom skin, Emotion UI 4.1 layered on top of Android Marshmallow. For the connectivity, it has USB Type-C port and supports Dual-SIM and 4G LTE.

Other major features on the device include fingerprint sensor on the back and DTS sound. The phone is powered by a 3000mAh battery, but unfortunately, it does not support fast charging technology.

The Honor 8 will be available in four colours: Pearl White, Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue and Gold. At a price of Rs. 29,999 the phone seems to have a lot of compromises. It does not support fast charging and VoLTE connectivity.

It will be interesting to see how the phone performs in the market, especially when it is pitched against the Mi 5 and OnePlus 3. For instance, OnePlus 3 is available at just Rs. 28,999, Rs. 1,000 less than the Honor 8 and offers much better specs. However, the Honor 8 will also be available offline, where OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi’s Mi 5 are not available.
