Flipkart’s annual shopping fest has kicked off to a great start. In fact, great might just become an understatement before the event concludes — Considering that the company has managed to sell off over half a million products within one hour on Day 1 of the sale.
As per a press release from Flipkart, the sale is witnessing a huge number of participants from all over the country. If stats from the company are to be believed, the shopping festival saw the highest number of concurrent users within 5 minutes of going live. Which means, that in the history of Flipkart, never have so many users shopped together in a single period of time.
To put things in perspective, the number of shoppers yesterday was almost 10 times more than any usual business given day at the e-commerce giant. Here are some other interesting statistics about the first days sales during the Big Billion days 2016 event.
- More Apple watches sold in 10 minutes than the total sale of Apple watches online and offline in a month.
- The number of large size (40 inch and above) LED TVs sold in 6 hours already exceeds the total number of TV’s sold during The Big Billion Days 2015.
- Over 40% of customers who shopped for home appliances availed product exchange, which points to another interesting shift among Indian consumers.
Myntra — a Flipkart subsidiary that deals with fashion and apparel — is also doing exceedingly well and has clocked thrice the revenue in the very first hour, compared to the 2015 edition of Big Billion Days.
Speaking on the topic, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Head, Category Design Organization, Flipkart said,
The Big Billion Days, like every year, has now set a new landmark in the history of commerce in the country. What makes it special is that the number of units sold in the first 6 hours of sale surpassed the total units sold in a day during the first day of The Big Billion Days in 2015! It’s a matter of immense delight to see this response from our consumers, inspiring us to make it even more special over the course of next 4 days of this sale.
Interestingly enough, the Flipkart sale happens to coincides with sales from various other e-commerce portals as well. From Snapdeal to Amazon and from Flipkart owned Jabong as well, sales are in the air, with all these websites offering massive discount on a range of products. Although from what I have seen so far, Flipkart’s Big Billion days appears to be the most popular event.
We hope to come up with more accurate statistics about the relative performance of these portals soon. Meanwhile, if there is something you have been looking to buy, well, you might just want to give it a shot now. While today is all about electrical and home appliances, the mobile and accessories sale will kick off tomorrow and will also witness the launch of the Samsung Galaxy On 8 smartphone.
