After Android and iOS, Microsoft is finally debuting its popular document scanning application, Office Lens, on Windows 10. The application makes it simple for users to automatically crop and re-use your scanned content in the complete Office stack — OneNote, Word or PowerPoint.

The app is basically a document scanning app which lets you take pictures of things like business cards, restaurant menus, notes on whiteboards or blackboards, anything. It trims, enhances and makes pictures readable. It also straightens weird angles, cleans up shadows and syncs the images automatically to OneNote or OneDrive.

With the latest updates for Office Lens on Windows 10, you can securely save your scans to your work or school Office 365 accounts. Suppose you’re collaborating over the note-taking app OneNote, need an image on your OneDrive or need to recreate a document in Word, the app brings your content securely to your Office 365 experience.

All you need to do is just sign in to Office Lens using your company, organization or school email address and capture the desired content. Your scans will benefit from the easy sharing and security afforded by Office 365.

Microsoft first launched its Office Lens app for Windows phone in March 2014, then a year later after gaining traction it was released for Android and iOS smartphones.

The Office Lens is in direct competition with another document capturing app called CamScanner. It also lets you take pictures and save the scanned documents. One of its flagship features is that the images can be grouped into different collections; which can be useful when scanning a packet of information or when you wish to keep specific scans grouped together. It is specifically designed to be a completely one stop solution for your document managing needs and provides safe backup to its website.

Unlike CamScanner, which simply lets you click a picture of your document and begin conversion, you can set a specific mode within Office Lens to allow the app to know what you are scanning. Three modes are clubbed together including photo mode – to take pictures of people and scenery, whiteboard mode – which makes glare and shadows disappear, and document mode – makes text clear and easy to read.

While CamScanner is an independent application, the Lens app is more like a companion to the Office experience. So, go download the Office Lens app from the Microsoft Store and readily start scanning documents.
