There are games and then there are the games. Pokemon Go definitely falls into the latter. The game has become a global phenomenon since it’s launch. Now that the excitement associated with it is slowly starting to cool somewhat, another very interesting update is being rolled out by the developers.
Apparently, Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.37.0 for Android and 1.7.0 for iOS devices. A note by the Pokemon Go team, which quite interestingly started off with a grand Trainers…..“, provided us with details of the update, which includes your very own Pikachu-like Buddy!! Yaaaay! Let’s take a look at the brand new additions being brought by the update, one by one.
First off and by far the highlight of this announcement is the Buddy Pokémon. We have all seen Ash walking around with Pikachu on his shoulder. Inexplicably, we have all fantasized and daydreamed about walking around with a virtual transformer that also sometimes accidentally shocks you, at least once. Well, Pokemon Go is bringing that daydream close to reality, or as close at it gets.
Trainers will now be able to choose one of their Pokémon to be their buddy. A Trainer can earn Candy for their Buddy Pokémon by walking a certain distance.
So basically, you can choose your own buddy Pokemon and it will walk around with you. Although i wonder how that is gonna work with someone like, say Magikarp — but there i go being too realistic again. The game has also made it significantly easier to select Pokémon on the screen, which used to be a pain point for some of the smaller Pokemon.
Another issue that has now been fixed involves Eggs sometimes hatching without displaying any animation. Also, performance reliability has been significantly improved and in case the device switches networks due to movement on the player’s part, no longer cause the application to hang or stop updating.
Finally, the app has integrated Pokémon GO Plus support along with some minor text fixes.
Well, the initial craze that surrounded Pokemon Go is cooling down somewhat. Let’s see if the Buddy Pokemon can stoke the fire somewhat. Although the creators will have to introduce something much more substantial — time to bring in those league matches or tournaments perhaps? — if they want to keep the train chugging along at full speed.
