Even after slowdown, e-commerce companies still continue to invest heavily in logistics and delivery services. After Amazon, which recently launched new fulfilment centres, Snapdeal has now opened 6 new mega logistic hubs. With this launch, Snapdeal has added a total of 1 million square feet warehousing space to its network. These centres are located in three cities of Delhi NCR, and one each in Kolkata, Lucknow, and Hyderabad.
Snapdeal will offer integrated facilities of warehousing, packaging, and quality control to sellers through these hubs. The company explained in a statement,
These centres are designed as integrated facilities which will combine warehousing, quality control and transportation within one complex. They will provide one-touch facility to sellers as all processes from receipt of stocks, quality inspection, preparation for dispatch and return handling will be done for designated orders under one roof.
On the lines of Amazon Fulfilment Centres, Snapdeal also has fulfilment centres known as SD+. Vulcan Express will own these centres taking the total number of warehousing centres to ten. It is a 100% owned subsidiary of Snapdeal taking care of logistics and delivery. There are currently more than 69 SD+ centres which assist sellers on Snapdeal to process their orders. The company recently announced that it fulfils 80% of its orders from these centres.
The newly launched logistics hubs will further help Snapdeal to strengthen its logistics and delivery operations. This is particularly beneficial to the company for the upcoming festive season. During the season, all major e-commerce companies are once again gearing up to offer discounts and lure customers.
Commenting on the launch of new centres, Jayant Sood, chief customer experience officer, Snapdeal said,
The new warehouses are located in cities where demand is growing exponentially and will allow our sellers to hold inventory closer to their customers. These facilities will help us deliver even faster in a cost-effective manner to these cities and to surrounding areas.
It is noteworthy that Snapdeal claims to have the largest network of sellers among all e-commerce companies with more than 300,000 sellers. The platform boasts of over 35 million products across more than 800 categories.
