Xiaomi is coming up with yet another budget smartphone offering — and a solid, powerful one at that. Its being called the Redmi Pro, and has been unveiled at an event in Beijing, China.
The Redmi Pro smartphone is also the first smartphone from Xiaomi to come with an OLED display panel and a dual camera setup. Its surprising that these features are introduced in a budget smartphone and not its flagship smartphone.
The phone has a 5.5-inch 1080p full HD OLED display with with full NTSC gamut. It comes in three storage options – 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. Based on the storage option, RAM and processor varies on the smartphone. While 32GB and 64GB version comes with 3GB of RAM, the 128GB model features 4GB of RAM.
The 32GB model is powered by MediaTek’s Helio X20 processor. On the other hand, the 64GB and 128GB models are powered by 64-bit Helio X25 10-core processor, along with Mali T-880 GPU. The handset runs on the Android Marshmallow based MIUI 8 and packs a 4100mAh battery.
On the photography front, Xiaomi has included a 13-megapixel main camera with Sony IMX258 sensor along with a 5-megapixel Samsung assistive sensor. The camera also has a dual tone LED flash support.
It also comes with a fingerprint scanner at front, built into the home button. It supports dual SIM as well as 4G LTE, along with support for VoLTE. Like many other recently launched smartphone, this one too comes with a hybrid SIM slot. Thus, you can use microSD card instead of secondary SIM.
The 32GB storage model is priced at 1,499 yuan, which is around $225. The 64GB of storage model, with Helio X25, is priced at 1,699 yuan (around $255). The 128GB model with 4GB of RAM costs 1,999 yuan (around $300).
The Redmi series of smartphones are targeted towards the budget buyers. As per the numbers revealed during the launch event, the company says that a total of 110 million Redmi devices have been sold as of July 11th. It means that the company sold 1.21 units every second over the past three years.
