Think you are the fastest in pulling the trigger? Now is your chance to prove it! In a major boost for esports in the country, Electronic Sports Leagues (ESL) in association with NODWIN Gaming, one of the country’s foremost e-sports organization, is set to announce the ESL India Premiership, with more than INR 42 Lakhs in cash prizes.

ESL has been organizing event and cups across the world to propagate esports. However, this is the first time that it will seriously turn to the hordes of gamers in India and provide them with an outlet to exhibit their talents. Some of the company’s previous events include Intel® Extreme Masters, ESL One, ESL Pro Series, StarCraft® II World Championship Series etc.

Nodwin, in case you are unfamiliar with it, is an Indian firm — an offshoot of the NODWIN Group — that offers complete solutions for companies operating in gaming sector. The range of services provided by Nodwin include event management and organization, gaming media and related merchandise stores.

Speaking about the Electronic Sport League and its mission of propagating the esport — that is a catchy term for sure —  Ralf Reichert, Managing Director of ESL said,

ESL’s mission is to increase the popularity of esports across the globe. We are excited to help building up the esports community in India with Nodwin. The country’s diverse communities, along with the fact that India embraces technology like no other place, makes it a perfect candidate.

Commenting upon the upcoming premiership, he said

We are very excited to get started with the ESL India Premiership, and I personally can’t wait to experience it live, as I’m sure the crowd will be fantastic. In the meantime, we will ensure that we can deliver a world-class experience – both online and offline – to the local and international fans, and hope this tournament series helps foster growth in the region.

Well, excited doesn’t cover the half of it.  The ESL India Premiership will feature three of the top esports titles up for grabs, namely, Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Hearthstone. Dota 2, come on!!! The online cups will kick off from the 9th of May, while the Challengers will take place in the month of August and November, with the final, Masters in December.

Speaking on the topic, Akshat Rathee, Director and CEO of NODWIN Gaming, said,

Esports athletes are treated as celebrities worldwide and they earn millions of dollars every year by opting to embrace electronic sports as a career. This is unfortunately not yet the case in India. – But we hope to change this.

I cant agree more with this. I still get yelled at home while playing, despite being a pro at gunning down the bad guys in Counter Strike. I am sure this is the case with half the players in out country. A world title and substantial cash should go a long way towards changing the games-are-useless mindset, wouldn’t you agree? That’s not even  taking into account the fact that playing games has been known to increase hand-eye co-ordination.

Rathee further added,

The ESL India Premiership is the next big esports revolution in our country. We feel proud to state that our continuous efforts for the last three years have led to the establishment of such a fruitful brand for our community and for our country, and it’s only just getting started. Join us and play your way up to the top of the ESL India Premiership. Meet the stars and young talents. Action and excitement are guaranteed, it’s the biggest showdown in India to date.

ESL has also partnered with Twitch to ensure live coverage of the event. Gamers and fans alike will be able to watch the ESL India Premiership action live every day from 7-10 PM on the Twitch ESL India Premiership Channel. Oh and did we mention that the championship will also introduce the popular rhythm game series Just Dance — where you must dance, really dance to the music, to win — to the country?

Well, brush up your shoes and bring out you gamepads and joystick for the upcoming ESL events. We will be sure to keep you updated with all the latest information in the field, meanwhile, you can also visit ESL’s official website for more information and updates on the topic.
