At its NEXT Google Cloud Platform user conference in San Francisco on Wednesday, among a host of other announcements, Google has announced a whole new machine learning platform. The service is called Cloud Machine Learning and it will be available in a limited preview starting Wednesday.

The new technology uses Google’s TensorFlow machine learning library that the search giant open-sourced a few months ago. According to the web giant, the platform is currently powering various different service offered by the company including  speech recognition in the Google app, search in Google Photos and the Smart Reply feature in Inbox by Gmail.

The Cloud Machine Learning service has now been released in alpha. This service can be used by developers for building and training custom models to be used in intelligent applications.

Cloud Machine Learning will take care of everything from data ingestion through to prediction,

the company says.

The result: now any application can take advantage of the same deep learning techniques that power many of Google’s services.

The new service comes under the domain of pre-trained machine learning models. This currently includes the Translate API and the Cloud Vision API. Google will now be adding yet another model to this named Cloud Speech API.

Cloud Speech API brings the same advanced neural network technology that powers voice search in the Google app and voice typing in Google Keyboard.”

Fausto Ibarra, Director, Product Management at Google writes,

It demonstrates speech-to-text conversion in 80+ languages with unparalleled accuracy, especially in noisy environments, and is blazingly fast. The technology that has already empowered developers to add speech to their Chrome and Android is now available for any application in real-time streaming or batch mode.

The new model will now be available for developers to use in their applications. This not only provides deep-learning capabilities, but also offers easy-to-adopt samples for common tasks like linear regression/classification with very fast conversion properties and building a custom image classification model with hundreds of training examples.

Google’s core has always been based on machine learning and cloud. So, combining the two domains surely makes for a stronger development. and the company has in been making

The company recently launched the first beta of its visual effects renderer, Zync on its cloud platform. We also saw Cloud Dataproc, the tool based on Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark service, go public a month ago. That’s not all, a lot of cloud-based services have been recently developed by the Alphabet subsidiary in recent time.

Although both Amazon Web Services and Microsoft have already got their very own cloud-based machine learning services, it will be interesting to see how Google differs from its competitors.
