mRupee, a subsidiary of Tata Teleservices, has today announced that it has partnered with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in order to provide an additional payment gateway option on its platform.

Indian Railways carries more than 23 million passengers a day and this association will now allow users a one-tap payment system for rail ticket bookings via mRupee wallet.

Commenting about this partnership, Pradeep K Sampath, Chief Operating Officer for mRupee, said,

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), is a subsidiary of the Indian Railways that handles the catering, tourism and online ticketing operations of the railways. Being the biggest e-commerce portal in India, it holds record of booking more 13 lakh tickets in a day. On an average, the portal sees approximately 4.5 to 5 lakhs bookings per day.

mRupee recently tied up with SmartD, a lifestyle management platform, which helps consumers in Chennai to  explore delicious, healthy and affordable food every day. Earlier, the company had partnered with ICICI Bank to launch a recharge facility for Delhi Metro cards.

With the company’s PaySmart card, its customers are now able to withdraw money from VISA licensed ATMs and also pay for goods and services at all merchants that accept VISA Debit/Credit cards nationally.

In recent times, IRCTC has partnered with many online service providers and startups to offer various services. Recently, it partnered with food tech startup Hello Curry to offer food services to the travelers. For the payment platform, IRCTC has also partnered with MobiKwik.
