Subscription based streaming services thrive on original content . And now, YouTube has joined the club of those offering exclusive content to the subscribers of YouTube Red.
The fact that some original content would eventually make its way to Red, was expected after the company launched the service last year. Well, here we have it now.
The company is releasing one series and three movies that would be available only to YouTube Red subscribers and on Google Play. The series is named PewDiePie screaming and the rest of the content includes A dance movie, A sci-fi comedy, YouTube celebrity Lilly Singh’s tour.
Back in 2015, the company had described its PewDewPie series as
In this reality-adventure series from the creator and executive producers of The Walking Dead at Skybound Entertainment and Maker Studios, experience thrills, chills and laughter as PewDiePie encounters terrifying situations inspired by his favorite video games.
The content will start rolling out in a week or so.
Well, Google has started along a more netflix-y path to greater revenue and usage. Quite a lot however, depends upon the quality of the original content it can come up with, of which these movies and shows are probably the first. but considering how insanely popular these youtubers already are, it won’t be much of a task we beleive.
The service also offers some additional benefits to users including the ability to enjoy videos across all of YouTube without ads, save videos to watch offline on your phone or tablet and play videos in the background.
Let’s see if YouTube’s first shot at creating original content for subscribers, is worth the $9.99 paid out.
