Wooplr, the social commerce and fashion discovery app, has announced appointment of veterans Rajiv Mehta, CEO Arvind Lifestyle and Rajesh Kamra, Co-founder, Koovs to significant positions within its organizational hierarchy.
While Rajiv joins the organization in a senior advisory capacity, Rajesh will be taking on the role of head of commerce for the company.
Welcoming the veterans in their new capacity, Arjun Zacharia, CEO, Wooplr said,
I take pride to welcome such industry leaders on board. Both Rajiv and Rajesh share an impressive track record of success and will bring significant value to our leadership team. Together as a team, we will continue our growth trajectory and hit $100 million GMV by 2018.
Startups have zeal, energy and a new way of looking at pre-existing problems. However, the one important thing they lack, is experience. Realizing this, the new entrants of today have begun deploying significant portions of their funds to attract some of the top minds of their fields away from their comfy jobs at established corporations and into the tough waters of startups. Wooplr’s recent step, looks to have been taken along the same direction.
Before his current position as the CEO of Arvind Lifestyles, Rajiv was the Managing Director–South Asia for Puma and in his 9 years with the company, he took its presence in India from zero to a turnover of over US$ 120 Million.
His role acquires even greater significance when one stops to consider his active profile as an Angel, in the Indian Angel Network.
Speaking about his new role, he said
I see Wooplr as a beacon leading the fashion commerce industry away from the discount & sale driven black hole to deliver a new way to shop for fashion, with their focus on balancing commerce, content, and community. I look forward to contributing to this revolution that Wooplr leads.
Similarly, Rajesh is known for his decade long experience in the industry and his successful stint with Koovs, where he was responsible for driving growth and sales through a string of innovative strategies.
Commenting on his new role, Rajesh said
I have been tracking Wooplr growth for last couple of years and have been very impressed with the way Wooplr has solved the fashion discovery problem of the young urbane consumer. It gives me immense please to join the Wooplr team in their efforts to spearhead social commerce.
Wooplr has been having a pretty good run of late. The company was founded with the aim to make fashion shopping a social experience — which is what it actually is considering the effect the opinion of others, tends to have on our own choices.
The Wooplr app not only allows users to get access to a highly personalized feed of curated fashion products and looks, but also lets them follow fashion influencers for inspiration. Finally, users have the choice of fashion trend discovery under a whole spectrum of categories including clothing, shoes, accessories, handbags etc.
The app was named the Winner of the Google AppExpo 2014 and featured as Editors choice by both Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The recent inclusion of Rajesh and Rajiv, can only be expected to give fresh impetus to the company’s growth.
