While subsidies in electricity and water bills may have become political issues for the Delhi government, its recent move to facilitate water bill payments via the MobiKwik app is likely to be greeted from all quarters — After all, the hassles of standing in line and waiting, are common to all, irrespective of their political preferences.

In what is the first association of its kind in the country, MobiKwik has announced a tie up with Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for streamlining the bill payment process. Consumers will now be able to download the DJB app — to be inaugurated by Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal on January 21st — and settle their bills from it.

Apart from paying bills, the app offers a whole host of other things too. Instant self-bill generation, the ability to view & download previous bills and payment receipts and even the water consumption graph, are just some of its perks.

As if these benefits aren’t reason enough, MoboKwik will also be launching an initial cash-back offers to give consumers yet another reason for using the app.

Speaking on the topic, Bipin Preet Singh, Founder CEO, MobiKwik said,

We are thrilled to partner with a progressive state government that blends technology and innovation to unlock more value and ease of living for its citizens. It is our proven credentials as a user-friendly mobile wallet based on a robust technology platform that made Delhi Jal Board choose us as a partner in its digital journey.”

The move is a big high for the payment platform too and will definitely take it closer to its goal of transacting $5B in payments. Also, the initiative may just prompt other state governments to take a leaf out of the Delhi Governments book.
