Accel India, cash, startups, fund of funds

MeraDoctor, an online platform which allows virtual, anonymous consultation between doctors and patients, has nabbed a pre-Series A round worth ₹7 crores ($1.1Mn) from Ronnie Screwvala’s UniLazer Ventures.

While UniLazer led the round, participation also came in from existing investor IndiaQuotient. Previous investors for the health tech startup include Aaavishkaar and Accion Venture Lab.

What looks like an easy, simple-to-use chat interface, MeraDoctor has helped close to 300K people connect with carefully screened doctors — all verified using stringent background checks.

The startup claims, that while most health platforms create an experience where neither patients nor doctors are comfortable, MeraDoctor builds trust and loyalty by smoothly connecting patients with reputable physicians only, and ensures that both sides have a high-quality experience. What probably further adds to the credibility of MeraDcotor is the fact that it is a doctor-led company.

Dr. Ajay Nair, CEO and Co-Founder, MeraDoctor says:

We’re honoured to have partnered with Ronnie Screwvala and some of the country’s best entrepreneurs and investors to take MeraDoctor to the next stage. Within the country’s rapidly evolving healthcare industry, our focus is clear – we make it easy for everyone in India to have high quality health conversations on their phone.

The new investment will help the company extend its technology platform, scale up its doctor base, add to its technology and management teams, and grow to become the largest virtual healthcare platform in India.
