Facebook has introduced yet another standalone app out of its labs, to better represent that gargantuan amount of data it has with itself. The new app is called Notify which will; yes you guessed it right; notify you about the news stories related to the topics you like.
Today we are introducing Notify, a new app from Facebook that delivers timely notifications about the things that matter to you, from the sources you love, all in one place,
announced Facebook in a post on its newsroom.
Users can select from a variety of stations across various categories to get the news from, such as Breaking News from CNN and Top Stories from Fox News will deliver the day’s news headlines or The Final Scores station from FOX Sports will provide end-of-game summaries for your favorite teams.
The app will post notifications on the lock screen of the phone of users from where they can swipe just swipe or tap through any Notify notification to open the link in the app’s browser where you can read the full article, watch the video, or view the site.
Users can also share these notifications with their friends via text, email, Facebook or other social networks, right from the lock screen itself. They can also swipe and add notifications to Saved Notifications list to read them later in a convenient in-app feed which contains all the saved notifications from last 24 hours.
Notify delivers news from more than 70 news sources including A&E, ABC, Billboard, Bloomberg Business, CBS Sports, CNN, Comedy Central, Cosmopolitan, Curbed, Discovery, E!, Elle, Getty Images, The Hollywood Reporter, Techmeme, Quartz, Sports Illustrated, The Washington Post, The Weather Channel, Groupon, GQ, and Harper’s Bazaar.
Notify is currently available for iPhone users only in the US only. An android version is reportedly on cards especially after Facebook recently hired Lior Gonnen, the founder of the Android news app Roundup — an app whose functioning is quite similar to that of Notify.
