The leading Indian e-commerce player, Flipkart has lately been scooping too many top talents from well established firms, majorly from Silicon Valley, to strengthen its team and maintain its lead in the market. After roping ex-CTO of Make My Trip, Sharat Singh just two days back, Flipkart has now hired Google executive Surojit Chatterjee, who has 33 US patents to his name, to head the consumer experience across desktop and mobile. Surojit had worked at Google as the global head of mobile search advertising and AdSense for search.
Flipkart now boasts of top executives from companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft in crucial positions of its team, most of whom are hired in this year.
A former Google executive Peeyush Ranjan, who joined in March this year, is heading the engineering team of Flipkart while Puneet Soni from Google joined as the Chief Product Officer in March.
In addition to it, Amazon’s Dan Rawson heads the customer logistics and supply chain ecosystems, another Google executive Ravi Byakod is serving as the director of engineering – accounting, and Microsoft’s Anand Lakshminarayanan is the head of product management for digital goods and services.
The extensive hiring spree and that too from the best minds in business signals towards the increasing cut-throat competition in the e-commerce segment in India. Flipkart, who has the largest market share among the top three companies( Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal) has been extensively expanding its team and operations.
It has raised about $3.15 billion so far in 12 rounds from the investors and is reportedly planning for an IPO in 4-5 years.
