Once again highlighting the importance of the Indian market towards the fulfilment of its global ambitions, Samsung today unveiled a brand new ‘On’ series of handsets, that seems to be aimed specifically at the Internet geeks.
The series will kick off with On5 and On7, which are to be available for purchase exclusively via Flipkart.
The On5 sports a 5-inch display and packs a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor under its hood. For snapping pictures and video calls, you get an 8MP rear and a 5MP front camera. Memory-wise, you get 1.5GB of RAM along with 8GB of expandable memory, all for a rather modest price of INR 8,990.
The On7 comes with a larger, 5.5-inch display and a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor. The device features an improved back camera at 13 MP while the front camera stays the same at 5 MP. The device also belongs to the mid-range segment and is priced at INR 10,990.
Both devices come with in-built 4G connectivity and are powered by 2,600 mAH and 3,000 mAH batteries respectively.
The company seems to be banking upon the enhanced internet connectivity along with the competitive price tags. As per Manu Sharma, Samsung India Electronics Director Product Marketing,
Young India today is always on the move and is looking to be connected all the time. At the same time, India is a value driven market and ‘On’ series will enable millennials to seamlessly integrate their personal and professional lives.
Samsung is also hoping to further boost its stake in the mid-range smartphone market with the On series — A niche where it already has a significant presence. In fact, if claims from the company are to be believed, Samsung had a 49 percent market share this September, an impressive increase from the 43 per cent of the year past.
Lets see if the ‘On’ series manages to further boost sales in the Korean Tech giants favor.
