Gurgaon based Zappfresh, a startup that has recently been trying to make changes to how people buy meat and associated food products, has raised an amount of Rs 2 crore ($300,000) in angel round of funding from a few disclosed investors.
Zappfresh sources meat straight from meat farms around Gurgaon, where they periodically conduct quality checks and regular inspections to maintain high quality. The company claims that it delivers the product to the end customer within 90 minutes once the order is placed on its portal. At present, Zappfresh has its presence in Gurgaon and south Delhi.
Zappfresh’s co-founder Deepanshu Manchanda spent most of the last decade either working on or working with startups. He founded an education venture before opening an organic bakery called Cho’o’Leaf in Delhi. He eventually joined MobiKwik in 2013, where he spent the last two years.
Customers can choose from a range of over 40 different items, including whole chicken, mutton and pork, exotic meats like quail, turkey and duck, and pre-cooked items like, kababs, chicken popcorn, marinated barbecue pieces and various cold cuts like ham, sausages and salami.
With this new pile of cash coming in, Zappfresh has plans to enhance their technical infrastructure and expand their presence to new cities. It might also look forward to expand its product catalogue.
The business model of Zappfresh is similar to the meat sold by Godrej, Sumeru or Venky’s, but the startup sells fresh meat procured from partnering farms in and around the city. The meat market is estimated at INR 110,000 crores, with a CAGR of 18 percent over the last three years. The benefit to Zappfresh is that is a huge untapped market and might prove to be a fortune changer for the organization.
