Continuing his string of investments in upcoming startups since last year, Ratan Tata has invested an undisclosed amount in yet another startup, this time a data analytics firm called Infinite Analytics, which is a US based firm founded by two Indians.
According to a statement released by the company, in addition to Ratan Tata, existing investor Nikhil Vora (founder and CEO of Sixth Sense Ventures) and new investors from Silicon Valley and India also participated in this round.
Infinite Analytics is a predictive marketing and analysis company and will use the funding amount to extend its predictive analytics technology from current retail and e-commerce to multiple segments. It was founded in 2012 by two Indians — Akash Bhatia and Purushotam Botla who are MIT graduates and got the idea of this firm from a class at MIT conducted by Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of World Wide Web. Tim Berners along with Deb roy, chief media scientist at Twitter also serve as advisors in the company.
Infinite Analytics deals with deep machine learning and predictive analytics and compiles and processes data from multiple sources to provide information of user behavior and a 360 degree view of the user activities to its clients.
The firm raised its initial seed capital from various investors coming from Austrailia, Taiwan, the US and the UK. Major clients of the company include names such as AirBnB, Comcast, Croma Retail, eBay, Future Group and Tata Marketplace. The company has a technology development centre at Boston and a sales team in India.
On the other hand, Ratan Tata, the chairman of private holding arm of Tata, Tata Sons has lately invested in companies such as Ola, Xaiomi, Snapdeal, Urban Ladder and CarDekho and with this latest venture, the number has climbed up to 11 personal tech investments.
