The International Business Corporation(IBM) has scheduled to set up another public cloud data center in India to meet the surging demand of cloud network in private as well as Government sector.
Also, setting up another data center would enable IBM to retain the data within Indian boundaries.
IBM India Managing Director Vanitha Narayanan said –
We are looking at setting up another public cloud data centre. As you know, sectors like government and financial services prefer their data residing within the country.
Currently, IBM India handles all the data through its data center residing in Mumbai. However, ever since Indian cloud based services marked a major boom, IBM realized the need for an extra data center to deal with rising requirements.
However, IBM provided no fixed deadline per say regarding when does the company plan to set up their new data center. Also, there’s minimal light shed upon the financial conditions that would be used to fund the new center.
Witnessing the sudden surge in India’s private as well as public cloud network, a number of giants have attempted to benefit by setting up their own cloud data centers and introducing new polices. Microsoft has also made a number of aggressive investments into the department.
Last year, Microsoft had announced plans to offer its commercial and cloud services Azure and Office 365 from three local data centers by the end of 2015.
In October last year, IBM announced the expansion of its global cloud network with its cloud centre in Mumbai. IBM has made a $1.2 billion investment in cloud centres across major markets globally.
