Line announces new music streaming service Line Music, partners with Japan-based Avex

After tapping into the mobile payment system, mobile (and desktop too now) based instant messaging app Line is further stepping its foot into music-streaming service.

The firm has officially announced the launch of its new offshoot, Line Music and will be will be partnering with Avex, a Japan-based record label, and Sony Music to “capitalize on the appealing content and experience developing music services” owned by both labels.

Little details about this new venture was already revealed by the company at Line’s annual event held in October and further plans are still fairly scant. As announced, the service will be offered on a subscription based model.

With its interactive and fun-loving user interface, Line has been significantly rising to become one of the top messaging service.  Considering the user-base of the messaging app, that is 170 million monthly active users, the record labels are looking ahead for a potential profit through this mobile distribution channel.
