China has busted several people in recent days, who were trying to sneak the new iPhone models into the country, before the official release date.
The latest seizure was from the luggage of two passengers arriving at the Shanghai airport from Tokyo carrying 453 units, one of them Chinese and other being Japanese, a woman at the Shanghai customs agency said, confirming state media reports. She said nearly 700 iPhones have been confiscated individually from passengers who did not declare them.
In the black market, the new phones are going for up to $3,000 each. That’s way more than the original price. Chinese scalpers and smugglers appears to make a good premium out of it.
We earlier reported on Apple’s plan to expand their sales to China by October 10. Stay tuned for more information.
