Under a strategic partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures announced today, HTC Vive is now termed as the exclusive VR partner for all content, online and offline activations for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming movie ‘Ready Player One’. This sci-fi thriller title has been scheduled for release on March 30th, 2018. It appears to be a rational choice for HTC, considering the plot established in a VR space.

HTC will also be responsible for producing varied pieces of VR content concerning the world of Ready Player One. The content so generated will act as a marketing product for the producers and will have the broadest reach to global markets for the use of VR in home, mobile and offline channels.

The movie is adapted from a book by novelist, Ernest Cline and already has a video game and virtual reality theme. It is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Amblin Partners, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures. It is being produced by Spielberg, Donald De Line, Dan Farah, and Kristie Macosko Krieger. Speaking of the association, Blair Rich, President, Worldwide Marketing, Warner Bros. Pictures said,

The virtual reality world within Ready Player One is extremely advanced, sophisticated and engaging, and with Vive, we chose the best system to represent the future of VR. We’re delighted that HTC Vive will be partnering with Ready Player One and very excited to work with them leading up the movie’s release in Spring 2018.

Apart from developing multiple pieces of VR content accessible through Viveport, HTC looks forward to presenting Ready Player One-inspired content to its Viveport Arcade platform for location-based entertainment. To further benefit the Ready One Player team, it will showcase movie’s VR content and games at various events held by HTC from time-to-time across the globe. Since HTC delivers the most advanced and immersive VR experience to the customers, a movie based on VR future tech seems like an alluring idea.

On the other hand, since HTC Vive delivers the most advanced and immersive VR experience to the customers, a movie showcasing the transformative nature of VR, and what it can and will hence strengthen its dominance in the market. This movie title could turn out to be a selling point for the company, helping the company successfully market its tech-luxuries.

Announcing the partnership,  Rikard Steiber, President, Viveport said,

HTC further announced key strategic partnerships with the International VR Research Institute (IVRI) with Shenzhen Government at the Vive’s yearly industry conference.
