Sony’s latest flagship smartphone is finally here. The company launched the Sony Xperia XZ Premium at Mobile World Congress, along with Xperia Touch, Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra. Along with XZ Premium, Sony has also launched XZs – an upgrade to last year’s XZ.

The Sony XZ Premium is a successor to Z5 Premium that was launched way back in 2015. The phone comes with a 5.5-inch 4K HDR display with screen resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 64-bit processor, along with Adreno 540 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It has 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded using a microSD card.

Apart from a really nice and sharp display, the phone also comes with a new camera system called Motion Eye. Sony has embedded fast memory right into the camera stack, enabling super-slow motion of 960fps at 720p resolution — first time for a smartphone.

There is a 19MP rear camera with Exmor RS sensor, hybrid AF and 4K video recording support. On the front, you get a 13MP camera with Exmor RS sensor, f/2.0 aperture and a 22mm wide-angle lens.

As of connectivity, the phone supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, USB 3.1 and GPS. It is powered by a 3230mAh non-removable battery and also supports Quick Charge 3.0 and Qnovo Adaptive Charging.

Other notable features of the phone include water resistance, rated to IP65 and IP68. There is also a fingerprint sensor integrated into the side-mounted power button as usual.

It will be available in Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black colours. Both models come with Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, with metal antennas at the top and bottom of the device.

The Sony Xperia XZs, on the other hand, comes with a 5.2-inch 1080p screen with a 2.5D curved glass running over the top. It is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor, which is slightly disappointing as XZ Premium comes with SD 835.

It features the same camera as of Xperia XZ Premium — 19-megapixel Motion Eye camera at the back. This means that it can also do the 960-frames-per-second slow-mo video. Since it captures larger pixels, Sony says low light performance has improved as well. It has Predictive and Laser autofocus, plus an RGBC-IR sensor for natural color rendering. On the front, there’s an impressive 13MP (1/3.06”) sensor with a 22mm wide-angle lens.

The phone carries Sony’s signature — water resistance. Instead of glass on both sides, the XZs has got a metal back. The pricing and availability information will be revealed soon.
