A fresh update for the Google Play Music app has been pushed out today. And the app is said to bring along a slew of improvements and feature additions. It removes the Google Play logo from the splash screen, adds a new recents category and album visualisations during playback. Also, the update (version 7.4) makes the app leaner by about 10 percent as compared to previous iterations.

But, the biggest change coming to the music streaming app is the one which has been insistently requested by users. They have always wanted to curate playlists and then schedule them as alarms to help them get out of bed. Well, Google Play Music may be planning to answer your prayers very soon.

Google is currently exploring the opportunity to introduce a ‘musical alarms’ feature within Play Music. Yes, you heard me right. This feature hasn’t been made available in the current update but has been spotted in a code teardown by Android Police. The company is looking to implement this functionality by allowing Clocks access to the music streaming service. The two Google apps would work in sync to help you schedule playlist-focused alarms.

In Google Play Music’s code, there’s a file called browse_configuration.xml which references the Google Clock app by name (or more exactly the pname com.google.android.deskclock). This configuration file contains the apps which can either access music or control playback through Play Music. And the default Google Clock app would soon be one of them.

Further, Google has recently also decided to merge the product teams (sales and marketing team were merged earlier) of both Google Play Music and YouTube Music. The tech giant is of the opinion that this move will enable it to “deliver the best possible product for our users, music partners, and artists.” And, this could be true as Google is moulding Play Music to become a worthy competitor in the music streaming ecosystem. You can download getapk market to download other android apps  like Google play music and many more.
