Snapdeal-owned online payments platform, Freecharge has announced a partnership with Indus OS to introduce us to an integrated payment solution for smartphones.

The newly introduced payments service, called Recharge 2.0, will now be made available on more than six million devices, on which Indus OS is already running.

The service is integrated into the phone’s dialer. Recharge 2.0 on the Indus Dialer enables a seamless and simplified recharge experience for users powered through FreeCharge. It is introducing features that provide comprehensive analysis on usage patterns alongside real-time updates to offer more control in the hands of pre-paid users.

Powered by an OS-level integration by Indus OS, Recharge 2.0 encourages smart usage of prepaid balance along with a superior and intuitive mobile recharge experience.

The aim of the partnership is to integrate digital payment solutions within the operating system on a smartphone.

Talking about the integration, Govind Rajan, FreeCharge CEO, said,

With Indus OS, we will integrate in the operating system of the user’s smartphone. The user will be alerted about call charges and call balance, and can recharge in one click with FreeCharge. We will also give the best recharge packages to the customer.

Rakesh Deshmukh, CEO & Co-Founder, Indus OS, said,

Contextual integration of brands and products across tech platforms is the future. This is inevitable in an economy such as ours, where we are just starting to scrape the surface of OS-integrated Brands (OSIB) to address true consumer needs. So, language integration in AI based services, map integration with location based services, payment integration with utility based services, video/audio integration with communication based services, security integration with government offered services, are amongst many such possibilities that will be explored.

By catering to Indus OS’ user base, FreeCharge is now expecting to scale up its recharge transactions and volumes by nearly 20%. FreeCharge currently sees a major chunk of its transaction coming through the recharge category.

The vision of Indus OS is to empower the next 100 million users with an operating system of their choice, requires an ecosystem rich in simple, localized and intuitive features. With regards to the same, it is consistently partnering closely with various brands for OS-level features that are seamless and contextual in nature.

This integrated feature is scheduled to go live this month, and will be available on all the mobile handset brands that Indus OS has partnered with.
