Bloomberg came up with an article on Apple’s Mac “How Apple Alienated Mac Loyalists”, talking about what exactly went wrong with the latest Mac book that led to disappointment among the Mac lovers.

In the MacBook Pro line that was launched in the month of October, Apple had plans to introduce “higher capacity battery packs” for longer battery life in the latest versions. However, according to a source, unfortunately the battery failed a “key test”. Apple did not want to delay the launch and miss the holiday shopping season, therefore it decided to revert to an older design.

The Bloomberg article wrote,

In the run-up to the MacBook Pro’s planned debut this year, the new battery failed a key test, according to a person familiar with the situation. Rather than delay the launch and risk missing the crucial holiday shopping season, Apple decided to revert to an older design. The change required roping in engineers from other teams to finish the job, meaning work on other Macs languished, the person said.

The new laptop didn’t represent a game-changing leap in battery performance, and a software bug misrepresented hours of power remaining. Apple has since removed the meter from the top right-hand corner of the screen.

When the MacBook Pro is reported to provide up to 10 hours of battery life for the 13-inch and 15-inch laptop, many MacBook pro users have been complaining about its battery life, claiming that they get merely 3 to 6 hours of battery life on a single charge.

The article also mentioned that a few early prototypes of last year’s 12-inch Retina MacBook were built with ports for the iPhone’s Lightning cable, but the MacBook eventually launched with USB-C instead. Additionally, Apple also planned to launch a gold color for its new Mac but that too did not work as the designers eventually decided the color would not work “on such a large product.”

According to Bloomberg, Apple emphasizes more on features like thinness and minimal ports which has worked for selling its iPhones and iPads and has generated about 75 percent of revenue this year. But these features are not enough for laptops to fulfill professional needs like maximum computing power.

While Apple failed to bring in any notable and attractive features to its updated MacBooks, Microsoft did not leave any stone unturned to loot the opportunity with both its hands at the launch of its Surface and Surface pro.
