Apple, AirPods

Apple’s highly awaited Airpods, which were to launch in the month of October, are finally available for purchase. Undoubtedly, the news should come as a delight to all the poor iPhone 7 users — considering that Apple knocked off the headphone jack, starting with the iPhone 7.

According to various sources, there was a delay due to the company’s “efforts to chart a new path for wireless headphones.” Charting a new path here, meant ensuring that both the individual pods were synced directly to the device — and not to each other.

You can now order the Aipods from Apple’s online store or buy them from Apple Stores. Apple has authorized Resellers and select carriers to start selling the AirPods from next week. Purchasing the AirPods will set you back by somewhere around US $159, which includes its charging case.

In its official press release, Apple said,

AirPods will be shipping in limited quantities at launch and customers are encouraged to check online for updates on availability and estimated delivery dates. Stores will receive regular AirPod shipments.

Here are the salient features of Apple’s AirPod:

  • These bluetooth-enabled headphones will provide up to 5 hours of music playback and come with a charging station that provides up to 24 hours of battery life to the headphones.
  • The ultra-low power Apple W1 chip enables AirPods to deliver high-quality audio and industry-leading battery life in a completely wireless design.
  • The users can use this wireless device to listen to music, make phone calls, enjoy TV shows and movies, play games and interact with Siri. Basically, it can do anything and everything your old headphones did. Except of course, you can’t use it to strangle your annoying friend.
  • The AirPods get immediately connected with all the devices signed into your iCloud account, including your Apple Watch, iPad and Mac on opening the charging case near your iPhone followed by a single tap.
  • With the help of the advanced sensors, once these AirPods are in your ear, it can automatically play and pause your music.
  • Double tapping on AirPods activates Siri, allowing you to access your favorite personal assistant to select and control your music, get directions, make and receive calls or perform any other Siri task.
  • AirPods require Apple devices running the latest version of iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra.
