343’s sci-fi spartan adventure “Halo 5: Guardians” video game is all set to become the basis of a reality competition eSports series.

Microsoft Studios’ 343 Industries, developers behind every Halo game since Halo 4, has officially closed a deal with the coveted TV production company Pilgrim Media Group to develop the reality tv show. The newly formed partners have not revealed any expected premiere date for it, nor have they lined up any sort of TV or digital distribution deals for the upcoming series at this point.

This recent deal for the “Halo 5: Guardians” TV show is the first of its kind project to have emerged from the joint venture of Pilgrim Media, Lionsgate and video game league ESL. The projects primary aim is to create and distribute the prime eSports entertainment content for both TV and digital platforms. Also worth noting is that, Lionsgate made an equity investment in Pilgrim Media just last year.

Ever since its first launch all the way back in 2001, the “Halo” franchise has been responsible for generating more than $5 billion in accumulated worldwide sales to date. And according to 343 Industries, eSports is the most important pillar of “Halo 5: Guardians,”. The game has been featured in such major events as the Halo World Championship and the Halo Championship Series (HCS), where the best North American and European teams compete on a weekly basis.

Craig Piligian, CEO of Pilgrim said:

We continue to be blown away by the sheer excitement surrounding eSports, Esports and ‘Halo’ fans are exceedingly passionate about gaming and devoted to their favorite titles and franchises — they are exactly the kind of audience we want to produce for.

Kiki Wolfkill, 343 Industries’ studio head of Halo Transmedia, added:

the reality series will bring the intensity and extreme competition of ‘Halo 5: Guardians’ eSports to a television audience. There is no better partner than Pilgrim to give our fans insight into the world of ‘Halo’ eSports.
