Earlier this November, Google rolled out the Developer Preview of Android 7.1 for its Nexus lineup of devices. During that time, the tech behemoth had announced that it will roll out another update for Android 7.1 in December, followed by final public release to AOSP update.

Now, as per Vodafone Australia, Google is all set to roll out Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for Nexus 6P users on December 6. The update, bearing build number NMF26F, which is reportedly 650MB in size, comes with security patches.

The update is Over-The-Air (OTA) and the users of Nexus 6P device will be notified when the update is available for their handset. Users can also check for the update manually by going to the ‘About’ tab in Settings menu.

Along with security patches, the new update will also bring new features such as app shortcuts and image keyboard support. Android 7.1 also introduces new emoji that features a wider range of professions for women and men.

According to Vodafone’s release notes, Google will begin pushing the latest update at 5:00 PM AEST ( 12:30 p.m IST) on 6 December 2016. However, the security patch level is dated December 5, which matches Google’s usual pattern of Monday releases.

During first three days of the update release, it will be available for just around 10,000 smartphones. The users for the update will be selected randomly and will be alerted via FOTA push message. From the fourth day to the thirteenth day, the update will be rolled out to 10% users per day.

The update will be available to all users from Day 14. Thus, it means that all the users of the Nexus 6P smartphone will be able to get their hands on Android 7.1.1 update by December 20.

The latest smartphones from Google — Pixel and Pixel XL are also slated to receive Android 7.1.1 along with other Nexus devices. Besides bug fixes, the Pixel update will add ‘Double-tap to wake phone’ and ‘Lift to check phone.’
