There are so many things you can buy on Amazon. Toys, books, clothes….and now even cars! Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced that it is teaming up with Amazon to sell cars at a discounted rate through the web portal.

The service is kicking off in Italy with three models — the 500, the Panda and the 500L. Customers in the country will be able to log on to the Amazon website, take their pick from these three models and click on purchase. Apart from making the whole car buying process easier, the collaboration will also allow buyers to avail a bunch of discounts that this partnership offers.

Speaking on the topic, Gianluca Italia, who handles Fiat Chrysler in Italy, said,

The time has arrived to give consumers a new, more efficient and transparent way to choose a new vehicle.

And what is more transparent than the web! He also said that these particular cars were chosen to pilot the program because while Panda is Italy’s biggest selling car, 500 and its larger 500L version include the young and adventurous — and buying a ca from Amazon is going to be something of the same sort.

FCA has launched this program after a lot of research. While Italians are willing to buy the car online, they would still prefer to pick it up on their own — this is why, Amazon and FCA will let them chose their model and other preferences and complete all other formalities online. However, they will then be contacted by a local dealer with instructions about how to pick up their new car.

FCA believes that the move will propel car sales. The company is making efforts to boost online sales and also said that it will be improving the available discounts in order to get more customers on-board. It will be interesting to see if people are ready to buy their cars, online. Though the program is being rolled out in Italy, a global expansion can also follow if this pilot is deemed to be successful.
