star wars battlefront

Electronic Arts invested a large part of yesterday’s official earnings call to talk about Titanfall 2 and its plans for the title and it’s series for “years to come”. It also spent a good amount of time revealing a little about another one of its heavy sellers, Star Wars Battlefront, when chief founding officer Blake Jorgensen subtly hinted that the sequel for the multiplayer based first person shooter will be arriving towards the end of 2017.

EA had previously stated that Star Wars Battlefront 2, or whatever else it ends up being named, will be releasing sometime next year. But CFO Blake Jorgensen decided to go a little more precise with the release schedule in response to the query regarding the possibility of a new Star Wars Battlefront game during 2017, saying(via Seeking Alpha),

the next Battlefront [is] coming a year from now, EA is working very hard on making sure that is an extremely deep and engaging offering.

It’s not exactly a release date set in stone, nor is it really a revelation: The original Star Wars Battlefront was launched in November of 2015, and that’s usually the month when the major game releases tend to come out anyway. This trend can be seen right now with titles such as Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Dishonored 2 (among others) all being crammed together into the same three-week window of November.

But in a way, it’s also good to hear that things will be proceeding with pace, and Jorgensen did also suggest that Visceral’s Star Wars game, the one currently being worked on by the likes of Amy Hennig and Jade Raymond, remains well on track too. Though it still hasn’t been properly announced, it safe to expect a launch in 2018.

We’ve talked about an action title that’s not yet announced, but we’re very excited and that’s a good chance that that will fall into fiscal 2018, i’m not yet giving guidance for 2018, so I want to be careful that we don’t get overboard. But we’re confident that we should be able to comp a strong year this year,

said Jorgensen.
