After failing to regain marketshare with its hefty-priced Blackberry OS smartphones, the company took its first stab at developing an Android phone with The Priv, which turned out to be a great success. Following it was the DTEK50, which despite its not-so-rave reviews, has not discouraged the company to launch the next phone in the DTEK lineup. The DTEK60 will be the company’s third Android smartphone.

While the DTEK50 was accompanied by a Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617, 3 GB of RAM, a 5.2 inch screen, and a 13-megapixel rear camera, plus a 8-megapixel front camera, the DTEK60 promises to offer a sweeter deal. Or at least, that is what the swiftly-multiplying rumors seem to be saying.

The first wave came when BlackBerry posted a full-specs page for the device on its own page, admittedly by mistake. Then, just yesterday, the Twitterverse was set abuzz with talk of the new phone yet again when tipster Evan Blass, popularly known as evleaksmanaged to get his hands on an image of the DTEK60. Although he doesn’t say much about the phone, letting the picture speak for itself (which still doesn’t tell us much), it still garnered a lot of conversation around the launch, which might end up being good for publicity in the long run.

As per BlackBerry’s own reporting, what is known about the DTEK60 is that it will feature a 5.5-inch QHD screen, Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 3,000mAh battery, fingerprint sensor and a USB-C port. On the camera front, the phone is set to include a 21-megapixel back-facing camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. It will not feature the physical keyboard that BlackBerry users grew so fond of, unfortunately.

Rumors also say that BlackBerry will be launching plenty more Android devices, possibly one for each quarter for the next two quarters. Other speculations also include a stream of thought that the device could be another rebranded Alcatel smartphone. BlackBerry is found to be in a flurry of new activity, reportedly planning to release another handset, codenamed Rome, sometime later this year.
