Before you go ahead, let me tell you. This post is going to be a journey of sorts, written with a lot of ‘Courage’ to help you gobble up everything and anything there is, to know about the new iPhones. Iyts going to be a long read.
Apple’s iPhone and Apple Watch launch event left us amazed with some fantastic new technology. And once we saw what Apple had put together to replace the 3.5 mm jack…..well, let’s just say that Apple’s airpods are easily worth falling in love with. We already gave you an overview of the iPhone, lets get in deeper now.
Design is obviously one of the most important considerations when it comes to the iPhones. The iPhone 7 bears a magnificent testimony to Apple’s tradition of producing high-end devices that look every bit as sophisticated as they actually are. The iPhone 7 is slimmer than ever. Thanks to the removal of the volume button, the 3.5 mm headphone jack and the home button, Apple has been able to blend the back cover seamlessly with the glass display on the front and the overall effect is to make the iPhone 7 look beautiful.
The re-designed solid-state Home button on iPhone 7 is a work of engineering and serves more functions than just make the device look good. Durable, responsive and capable of working in tandem with the brand new Taptic Engine, the new home button provides more precise and customizable tactile feedback that can also be deployed by third party apps.
Color-wise, for the first time ever, Apple’s flagship devices have been introduced in variants of black, along with the signature silver, gold and rose gold shades. Apple has also used a unique manufacturing process where the iPhone was actually spinned through sand using robots, to give the devices a very high degree of polish — producing variants such as glossy black, matte black and in case you are looking for something subtle, just black.
Dimension wise, the iPhone 7 rocks a body of 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm (5.44 x 2.64 x 0.28 in) and weighs at a mere 138 g (4.87 oz). On the other hand, the iPhone 7 Plus is a tad bigger and heavier at 158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3 mm (6.23 x 3.07 x 0.29 in) and 188 g (6.63 oz). The device is also highly resistant to dust and comes with waterproofing that means that you can easily take it to the shower. Interestingly, Apple has not made any other major changes and has decided to stick to the basic design offered by the 6 and the 6S.
While we will leave you to decide if it was a smart move or not, on a more personal note, I love what the new iPhone 7 and the 7 Plus look like.
Apple has really gone all out on the displays this year. The company first deployed the brightest displays ever in the Apple Watch series 2 and the new flagship also comes with the brightest, most colorful Retina HD displays ever used in an iPhone. The colors have been significantly improved as well and the new iPhone packs a wide spectrum for enhanced cinema viewing. Along with the standard colors, you also get enhanced color saturation and the best color management in all the smartphone industry.
Under the hood
The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus are packed with Apple’s latest iteration of the iOS platform — the iOS 10. Apple is calling it the world’s most advanced operating system and it might just be true. Apple has been improving communication since ages and the new iPhone packs an update to Messages that will provide users with significantly more expressive and animated ways to message friends and family.
Siri has also received a boost and is now capable of doing much more by working closely with third party apps. So instead of just using Siri to interact with system applications, you can also deploy it just as easily in third party apps. Considering the growing significance of iOT and Home automation, Apple has also includent and gave a certain portion it’s on-stage time to Home.
That app is basically a central hub of sorts that will let users control all of their smart appliances. The platform also brings along all new ways to interact with apps and several more interesting and useful applications of the 3D Touch. Users as well as developers will find iOS 10 the perfect place to experiment, innovate and do much more with their devices.
iPhones have always boasted of a particularly good camera and the iPhone 7 is no exception. With a single 12 MP lens on the 7 and a dual 12 MP lenses on the 7 Plus, this iteration of iphone may just pack one of the best smatphone cameras currently around.
The devices come with the optical image stabilization feature on both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The alerture size has been increased to let in more light and at a ƒ/1.8 aperture, the device can snap bright pictures. The cameras also pack a 6-element lens to ensure brighter, more detailed photos and videos.
The iPhone 7 Plus features the same12-megapixel wide angle camera as iPhone 7 and adds a 12-megapixel telephoto camera that together offer optical zoom at two times and up to 10 times digital zoom for photos. Apple has also introduced some tweaks that let you capture DSLR like pictures — you know, like the ones that have the background blurred while the subject is in focus. Here are some other prominent features of the new, renovated camera.
• New Apple-designed Image Signal Processor, which processes over 100 billion operations on a single photo in as little as 25 milliseconds, resulting in incredible photos and videos;• New 7-megapixel FaceTime® HD camera with wide colour capture, advanced pixel technology and auto image stabilisation for even better selfies.• New Quad-LED True Tone® flash that is 50 percent brighter than iPhone 6s including an innovative sensor that detects the flickering in lights and compensates for it in videos and photos.
While we will let you be the judge of everything else, the cameras are literally awesome — you can take our word for it, and that of various noted photographers who gave the iPhone 7 camera rave reviews.
Apple has always offered good audio quality. However, it didn’t particularly focus on the audio as a major feature in its own right. Well, this year promises to change all that as the company has doubled down on sound in this year’s iPhone iteration.
First of all, the device has two speakers. One of them near the top and the other near the bottom of the device. Both of them are stereo and are capable of producing a quality sound output as well.
The 3.5 mm jack is gone. However Apple is providing users with EarPods that make listening a pleasure. Along with the ability to connect them to the lightning charging port, users can also use the 3.5 mm to lightning jack to connect any pair of headphones to your device. We would also elaborate about the fantastic new airpods, but they deserve a separate article. You can read more about them right here.
The new iPhones are a cut above their predecessors when it comes to performance. And that is saying something considering the power packed A9 processor deployed by the A9 in iPhone 6 and 6S. The new flagships however, deploy Apple’s latest A10 processor and make the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, one of the most powerful smartphones around at present. The A10 Fusion comes packed with two different sets of two cores. While one of these sets is for high performance and can let you take care of the stuff that requires some serious CPU effort — such as HD games of 4K videos — the other two cores are for when you want to preserve your battery and make your device run for longer.
The A10 Fusion’s CPU now has four cores, seamlessly integrating two high-performance cores that run up to two times faster than iPhone 6, and two high-efficiency cores that are capable of running at just one-fifth the power of the high-performance cores.
The end result is that the iPhone 7 series offers a 40% faster CPU performance and up to 50% faster graphics performance than last year’s iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. So yeah, you are not likely to find any complaints with regards to the performance of these devices.
