Verizon might have bought Yahoo for $4.8 billion earlier this week but Yahoo still remains a standalone company. So it is going to continue with its usual functions, updating, and coming up with new product and platforms. Working towards the same and reminding us that Messenger still exists, it has recently launched a redesigned Yahoo Messenger desktop app.
Notably, the company launched an improved version of Messenger for Android, iOS, and web last year. But the native desktop app of Messenger did not go through many changes at that time.
In fact, Yahoo is phasing out support of that old desktop app and will end the support on August 5. And today’s launch aims to meet the needs of those users who still prefer a desktop app rather than a web version or mobile app.
Announcing the new Messenger, Yahoo wrote on its Tumblr page,
Today, we’re delighted to announce that you can enjoy all of these features you’ve grown to know and love in our brand-new Yahoo Messenger desktop app for Windows and Mac.
The desktop Messenger boasts to include some of the most popular features of Yahoo Messenger on the mobile app and web version. This includes un-sending messages, GIF sharing, drag-and-drop photo sharing, etc., in addition to desktop notifications.
Users can share multiple photos at once by using the drag and drop feature. They can also “like” posts or photos as well as reply with GIFs(sounds like something Slack does!!). The new desktop app also comes with desktop notifications which allow users to continue with their work without checking for messages every now and then.
However, the most useful and important feature of the desktop app is the feature to un-send messages. So, you can now un-send any message, photo or GIF using the un-send button of Messenger.
You can download the latest desktop app of Yahoo Messenger from here. It is available for both Windows and Mac. And yes, if you are still using the old version, update it before August 5 as it will no longer function after that.
