Each year, Apple unveils its signature flagship smartphone in September — a fact as known as the fact that we exist in this universe. A few months from now, the Cupertino firm will be showing off its brand new iPhone 7 (bleh..again a known fact). If you are planning to buy the 6S now though, we recommend you to wait. And there is a whole list of reasons for this advise. (here’s the unknown)

While the iPhone 6S has been a hit, it didn’t quite live up to what smartphone Apple enthusiasts were expecting. And with all the other smartphone vendors selling their flagships with hardware that made the Apple phone seem 2 years old — things became even more troubled. If you were to buy the 6S a couple of months ago, we wouldn’t stop you. But with July rolling out now, it will be a good idea to wait.

Why, you ask?

  1. Just a couple of months in, we will be getting a brand new iPhone which is sure to be better than any current model.
  2. With the release of the iPhone 7, the costs of older iPhones will drop drastically.
  3. There are many expected rumours about the 7 that make it stand out among iPhones.

Rumour round-up

Although no confirmed reports about the iPhone 7 are out in the open, there are a few rumours that seem to be believable. First off, the iPhone 7 is going to be much (much!) slimmer than its predecessors. But this thinness will come at a price. It has been confirmed that the 7 will not come with the traditional 3.5 mm audio jack.

What?!

Apparently, Apple is ditching the headphone jack to make the iPhone thinner and more pocketable. Sure, it outrages most smartphone users, but that’s the way the smartphone vendor will be going next. The solution most would give you is using a pair of wireless headphones or earbuds that Apple may provide that come with a lightning connector.

Older earphones you own could be modified to fit into the lightning port with an adapter that Apple may sell.

The next iPhone is also rumoured to be water-resistant and come in with an improved camera.

The larger Plus-model 5.5-inch iPhone is expected to have twin camera lenses to improve overall photo quality and add depth-of-field effects. This rumour was born because of Apple’s acquisition of two Israeli firms in particular, PrimeSense and LinX that specialize in three-dimensional imaging using multiple sensors. The smaller 4.7-inch variant will get a single camera with a better sensor.

The overall design of the iPhone 7 is expected to be similar to the iPhones 6 and 6S. This will be a deviation from the norm as Apple introduces new designs in non-S years. The devices will ship with iOS 10 out-of-the-box and come with a higher starting 32 GB storage instead of 16 gigs.

Keeping all this in mind, it’s a good idea to wait for the next iPhone than to buy one now.
