Facebook-owned Instagram has finally introduced the facelift that we’ve been talking about. The new Instagram icon now has a flat and colorful design, incorporating shades of pink, yellow and blue to represent the rainbow.
The companion apps – Boomerang, Hyperlapse and Layout icons have also been redesigned to follow in the footsteps of Instagram design update. But, icons are not the only redesign Instagram is greeting us with.
The UI itself has been given a minor facelift, or would it be better to say that it has been toned down to black and white. The iconic blue top navigation bar and the orange notification pop-up’s have now been replaced with a simpler and cleaner design. With a lot of under-the-hood improvements paired with this simple design layout, Instagram wants you to focus more on the content you post. It wants you to enjoy the same user experience without making any drastic changes to the navigation layout.
Introducing the new design changes, Ian Spalter, Instagram’s Design Head says that,
The Instagram community has evolved over the past five years from a place to share filtered photos to so much more — a global community of interests sharing more than 80 million photos and videos every day. Our updated look reflects how vibrant and diverse your storytelling has become.
The new icon design and rainbow color in the background have been used to reflect the rich and diverse community of the platform. The community is the center of focus in this update and has been touted to give the platform its life and color(a clear indication for design inspiration).
The new design update might feel a bit daunting at first, but users will get used to it pretty soon. All the navigation layout has been kept the same, while the notification pop-up’s still have a dash of color to it – Red. The filter and editing screen also have some icon and under-the-hood changes to boost the apps speed and performance, but their use still remains same.
The new design changes have already been introduced for Instagram on Web, and you can check out the changes right now at www.instagram.com
Instagram is rapidly changing and introducing new and bold changes to its application to uplift the platform. The design change has been preceded by the testing and introduction of Business profile pages alongside new dynamic Ad-Tech services.
