Trade association of Indian IT and BPO industry, NASSCOM has partnered with Facebook to build a product design initiative. This initiative is aimed towards encouraging Indian entrepreneurs to become problem solvers and develop solutions based on innovation and design thinking.
An MOU was signed between NASSCOM and Facebook in Silicon Valley this week which will focus on assisting the innovation ecosystem, helping product based companies to build solutions in key sectors where technology can play a transformational role.
According to Nasscom President R Chandrashekhar, “When we are looking at these product companies, design becomes very important. The MoU is intended to help develop this ecosystem and bring in the design thinking. ”
With the help of this initiative, NASSCOM plans to help at least 500 plus product start-ups in getting enabled tools programs and offer paid employment to more than 5,000 design thinking professionals. It is expecting at least 50 or more award-winning products to come out of this whole initiative.
“The Design Initiative will aim to build and diffuse a design culture across our ecosystem, link up with academia, recognise outstanding designs and overall ensure India’s software products delivery delightful customer experiences,” said Ravi Gururaj, Chairman, NASSCOM Product Council.
He further said that in order to bring focus to product design and innovation, NASSCOM product council has already been running design workshops and an annual design summit to create awareness on product design and its imperatives.
On partnering with NASSCOM, Julie Zhuo, Vice President, Product Design, Facebook said, “At Facebook, we are passionate about design and would like to work alongside industry to foster innovation in product design in India, a country known for great technology and engineering talent.”
She further added that product design ecosystem was evolving swiftly but to seize this growth, they need to address the growing need for skilled designers and better design tools to produce great designs more effectively.
This is not the first time that NASSCOM and Facebook have partnered to promote entrepreneurship and startup initiatives in India. Last year, NASSCOM had partnered with Facebook for its initiative called “Leaders Building for the Next Billion”.
The initiative, under the 10000 startup program, was aimed towards inspiring innovation for new internet users by supporting developers who are building innovative apps and mobile websites for these communities.
