Bots are all the rage now with companies constantly discovering and working upon new processes that can be automated by the use of artificial intelligence. Along the same direction, Microsoft has unveiled a brand new chat bot called, which is capable of handling intelligent conversation.

Yup, the bot is already operational on a variety of platforms including Twitter, Kik, and GroupMe, Snapchat and even Facebook. For now, the bot can handle requests for jokes, story, horoscopes and even comments for your pictures.

Here is how the bot is described on its website,

Tay is an artificial intelligent chat bot developed by Microsoft’s Technology and Research and Bing teams to experiment with and conduct research on conversational understanding. Tay is designed to engage and entertain people where they connect with each other online through casual and playful conversation. The more you chat with Tay the smarter she gets, so the experience can be more personalized for you.

The bot has been built by the use of anonymous, public data and the company will be exhibiting it, as well as diving deeper into its capabilities, at the next week’s build conference.

Interestingly, interacting with the Tay bot is like any other relationship — a work in progress. Conversations with the bot actually improve the more you interact with it. The bot analyses conversations and is thus able to personalize itself according to your preferences. You can also allow it to track your nickname, gender, favorite food, zip code and relationship status to get a closer experience.

We expect Microsoft to continue beefing up its capabilities until it can actually start resembling a real human being. Not that it doesn’t already, but let’s say…….a more sincere human being perhaps?

Although that is probably a matter of opinion. People have already shown that they are capable of anything — including falling in love with a bot — as Xiaoice, Tay’s Chinese contemporary, has been told by thousands upon thousands of people.

And why not? Bots can listen to you sympathetically, can be non-judgemental — although not Tay — and are available to speak with around the clock. Another area humans have been trumped by one of their own creations.

The epitome of A.I. powered bots — at least in my humble opinion — would occur somewhere around the point, when these bots are able to draw upon the vast reserves of the internet to hold dynamic and intelligent conversations on virtually any topic.

What with chat bots already starting to handle business for various corporations — Uber to name just one — Artificial Intelligence may just turn out to be a huge money spinner in the near future. That will leave Microsoft, and all the other corporations working in the direction, with a brand new, hot product upon their hands. Need someone to manage your store’s online sales? Need a personal friend? We got them all, nicely packed in a box.
