In what is a pretty concrete demonstration of its rapidly increasing growth and reach, online retailer Flipkart has managed to cross the 50 million installs mark on Google Android Play Store. The achievement is also a first for an Indian application, on the play store.
The app stood out among all categories including the communication, social, entertainment and commerce niches. While a whole bunch of reasons together caused this, the fact that the Android platform covers over 85 percent of the market share in India, may have played a prominent role too.
Data from separate reports also confirm the number of downloads. As per a SimilarWeb report, Flipkart managed to attract almost 47 percent of the online shoppers on its own.
The company had started focusing a fair bit of its resources and attention upon its mobile application. The results of the effort, are there for everyone to see. The strategy seemed to work particularly well for India, where 70% percent of the total traffic is generated from mobile devices.
Flipkart’s investment in Myntra seems to be paying off too — at least as far as driving traffic is concerned. Flipkart and Myntra were together responsible for almost 63 percent of the total number online shoppers.
The announcement should definitely serve to encourage and boost morale at the company, which had been under a bit of weather after a couple of high profile executives, including Myntra founder Mukesh Bansal, left the company.
Well, kudos to flipkart. The company has stepped up its level of activity of late and probably expects to grow quite a bit more in the near future, as evinced by the launch Flipkart Global and its heavy investments in its logistics division.
