Srinivas Murthy, Senior Vice President of Marketing at one of the fastest growing eCommerce startups of India, Snapdeal is calling it quits. He has resigned from his post to start his own venture.
While Srinivas has not revealed any details related to his upcoming startup, he has said that he will announce his new venture in the coming few months. He said, “The entrepreneurial drive has rubbed off onto me. I’m now moving on to become an entrepreneur myself.”
Commenting about the development, Kunal Bahl, co-founder and CEO of Snapdeal, said,
Srini has decided to begin an exciting new journey as an entrepreneur, and while he will surely be missed, I am delighted to see that he is carrying forward the Snapdeal spirit of entrepreneurship.
Srinivas Murthy is an electrical engineer from Vivekanand Engineering College, Mumbai and has done his MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
Srinivas joined the company as Sr. VP of Marketing in April 2015. Prior to that, he worked as Regional Marketing Director – Africa, for GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare. Before that, he worked at Coca-cola in several roles.
Considering the senior management team of Snapdeal, this is the second major exit from the company. Prior of Srinivas, Ranjan Kant, who was working as the Head of Strategy at Snapdeal, left the job to become the Chief Marketplace Officer at Jabong.
Along with racking in massive amount of funding from number of investors, eCommerce startups in India have been actively bringing experienced professionals — which includes a few from the valley as well — to lead their start through its growth period.
Recently, Snapdeal hired Anand Chandrasekaran, who was previously working as Chief Product Officer at Bharti Airtel. The company also appointed Gaurav Gupta, formerly the India Head of Bay area startup Scalearc and Bhuvan Gupta, ex-CTO of BSB Portal in the past one year.
